The Art of Dale Mathis

Kudos once again to Timo.
Today I am going to say a word or two about Dale Mathis, a most brilliant American artist whose work has a lot in common with the ethetics of Steampunk. This similarity is most likely unintentional. The themes Dale uses for his work just happen to overlap with Steampunk ethetical preferences.

This is one beautiful piece of art. You can find more beautiful work on Dales website. It is heavy on the multi-media side, with quite a few more videos and photos of his pieces.
Concerning his inspirations, his bio gives the following information (amongst others)
…Growing up in Inglewood, he always had a desire to be like MacGyver, taking things apart and not trying to put them back together but finding creative new uses for the parts.
Deeply inspired by artists Salvador Dali and Edmonia Lewis, Art was his escape into another reality he could create for himself. He is a truly self taught artist.
I guess this is something many Steampunks also feel and can relate to. Alright, enough from me. Go and visit the site, you will not regret it!

I am an anthropologist and in this capacity a minor scholar of the Cthulhu Mythos and H.P. Lovecraft. I am also quite obviously heavily into Steampunk and Dieselpunk and like travelling.
