Hot town, Steampunk in the City
Posted By Traveler on 6. Juni 2010
Well, the original line by Joe Cocker is a bit different, but never mind…
So, right now it’s warm, almost hot and sunny here in Augsburg and this raises the question:
What does the gentleman Steampunk wear in summer… I guess the ladies have it somewhat easier. There are quite a few ideas drifting around on the Ætherweb. Just google “Steampunk summer” and you get results like this one:
Incidentally, the lady in the picture is my friend Hilde Heyvaert of House of Secrets Incorporated, you can find great clothes and accessories and tons of inspiration on her site.
Comming back to the original search: Most images feature ladies and gear for ladies (including traditional Victorian summerwear and bathing-suit), covering quite arange of outfits.
When it comes to summer gear for gentlemen (which of course is rather more interesting to me, I am not of the Eddie Izzard persuasion), the range appears limited. Apart from my beloved kilts, style seems to alternate between the dandy gentleman in a light suit and variations on the theme of intrepid explorer/adventurer (just picture Indiana Jones).
Of course, if you are more of the Dieselpunk persuasion, you can take inspiration from Casablanca (the classic movie, not the city…)
Hmmm… The more I think about it, the more ideas pop into my head about what to wear as a Steampunk in summer. Hurray for autonomous thought processes during creative writing!
