A rather random and fun photo I took in a local pub and I thought I share it with you: I guess this is based on an actual early model of steampowered harvesting machine, but the armchair on top lends such a delicious “slightly mad inventor” element to it.

I have been writing a Steampunk novel on and off for over a year now. More often than not, life, family, the day job interfered with my progress goals but recently, I was able to make some progress. The novel is still far from finished and at the current rate, I guess it will take [...]

In many ways, Steampunk fiction is often a kind of alternative history setting. Basically 1890′s tech sci-fi. I mentioned this before, the alternative history ends at the tech level in many cases. You still get the usual global players of the day: The British Empire France The German Empire The Russian Empire The United States [...]

Again it has been a while since I last posted something about Zeppelins. A shame, really. This time the image I want to share with you is from a historic postcard. I may be mistaken but the city forming the background for LZ-129 Hindenburg in this image is Frankfurt. I am happy to be corrected, [...]

On the 22nd of April this year, I posted a rather harsh review of Carnal Machines here. I also mentioned three stories int this collection I actually really enjoyed. Two weeks back, D.L. King, the editor of Carnal Machines got back to me. She not only very graciously accepted my criticism, for which I pay [...]

It had to happen eventually. The professional spammers have discovered the Steampunk section of the æthernet as a source for traffic, customers and what not. As a result, there are now sites on the ætherweb wich have the term Steampunk in the URL, have a design which fits into the esthetic range but… And this [...]

Phil Plait is an astronomer, educator, pillar of the skeptic community, and blogger. He has some very good points to make on how to best tackle the problem of the spreading wave of pseudo science. Please enjoy the video: Phil Plait – Don’t Be A Dick from JREF on Vimeo.

Praise Great Cthulhu for the Æthernet. Coming to think of it, computer-related technology is the domain of the tick-tock man, himself an avatar of Nyarlathotep. So let us praise Nyarlathotep for the internet: *buzz* . . . go out among men and find the ways thereof, that He in the Gulf may know. To Nyarlathotep, [...]

Since the likelihood of a zombie apocalypse is at an all-time high at the moment (or at an all time low, depending on the angle you approach Zero), I thought I dedicate this week’s Friday blog post to educating my fellow non-infected humans. Specifically, I want to show them what to do and how to [...]
