Modern Traditionalism

Posted By on 9. Januar 2012

Are you confused by the title of today’s blog? Believe me, I am, too.  Anyway, a dear friend of mine brought my attention to this wonderful piece of modern Japanese music:

The Yoshida Brothers have managed to bring traditional Tsugaru-janinsen music into the 21st century and created very impressive pieces of music along the way. Who would have thought Shaminsen could be played this way.

For your information: Shaminsen is the name of the string instrument the brothers are playing.
And now I am going to see if there are any Morris Dancers on the ætherweb, dancing to modern music, or at least a modern version of their traditional tunes.
