Aha! Visual proof of At the Mountains of Madness actually being a travel report of a little known Antarctic vacation trip taken by Lovecraft in the Antarctic summer of 1930/1931:
See, it is a photographic image, so it must be true! Iäh!

I am an anthropologist and in this capacity a minor scholar of the Cthulhu Mythos and H.P. Lovecraft. I am also quite obviously heavily into Steampunk and Dieselpunk and like travelling.
